WOW...so many tough questions.

I think pain is impossible to avoid in this life, because humans have flaws and expectations can also "hurt" us in some ways. Dreams can be broken and we can feel pain from those kinds of dreams.

Superior because of pain? Never. There are some types of pain that I wish I hadn't felt, but then again by going through a painful experience, I can get enlightenment that I wouldn't be able to get otherwise - because whatever it is, experiencing something by yourself is a totally different thing than reading about it. After all, each person is different and each situation/challenge/pain is different and our reactions to a similar situation/challenge/pain is also different.

So even though I don't really want to experience pain, but I embrace whatever pain that may come my way because it helps me expand myself. And I always think that if any pain brings me closer to God, then it's worth it.

Oh, one more thing...I've lately considered pain as a kind of "guru". I'm thankful for all the lessons I learn through different types of pain.
